(OCALA, Fla.) Jan. 9, 2009 – World class art exhibitions, monthly film series, weekend special events and trips to other Florida art museums and historical sites are among the scheduled events and programs offered at the Appleton Museum from January through March. Regular daily admission to the Appleton is $6 for adults, $4 for seniors 55 or better and students 19 and over, $3 for youths age 10-18, $12 for a family of two adults and accompanying children, and free for children age nine and under and CF students.
In January, the Appleton continues showing the “Winslow Homer In America” exhibition through Jan. 18, the museum’s permanent collections of European, American, Asian, African, Contemporary and pre-Columbian art are exhibited daily, and educational films on the visual arts are presented at 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 18 and 25.
February’s lineup features a Trips ‘N’ Tours excursion titled “Discover Florida’s Fountain of Art” with a visit to Orlando’s Museum of Art on Feb. 14 and 10, a Saturday Art Craft event for children ages 10-14 on Feb. 7 and a Community Day with free admission and live musical performances by flutist Donna Wissinger on Feb. 8. Other programs in February include CF’s Film Series showing “Pan’s Labyrinth” at 2 p.m. on Feb. 10, opening of the A.E. “Bean” Backus art exhibition on Feb. 14 and educational films on the visual arts are shown at 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 1, 15 and 22.
In March the Appleton continues displaying the A.E. “Bean” Backus exhibition throughout the month, CF’s Film Series presents “The Italian” at 2 p.m. on March 3 and an After Hours performance by Spanish duo pianists Elena Martin and Jose Meliton is scheduled at 5 p.m. on March 5. More programs in March include a Saturday Art Craft event for children ages four to seven on March 7, and educational films on the visual arts are offered at 1:30 p.m. on March 1, 8, 15 and 22.
The Appleton Museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, noon to
5 p.m. on Sundays and closed on Mondays. In addition to daily admission, a 12-month membership is also available for $25 for seniors 55 and over, $30 for adults 18 and over, $40 for two seniors over age 55, $50 for a family of two adults and any children under age 18, and $15 for all college students or educators including teachers, professors, instructors and retired educators.
