(OCALA, Fla.) May 8, 2009 — An Italian Renaissance-themed “Family Day” will be presented at the Appleton Museum of Art of Central Florida Community College on Saturday, May 30. The “Family Day” program begins at 10 a.m. and will include the “Mysterious Mona Lisa” children’s play, costumed strolling musicians, games and hands-on art projects. All activities, plus admission to the entire museum, will be included in the daily ticket price of $12 for a family of two adults and accompanying children under age 18; or $6 for adults; $4 for seniors 55 and better and students 19 and older; $3 for youths ages 10-18; and free for members, CF students, children age 9 and under, and active military personnel and their immediate families.
Museum guests are encouraged to come dressed in Renaissance-style attire and enjoy the Atlantic Coast Theatre’s production of “Mysterious Mona Lisa” starring Leonardo Da Vinci at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m., plus musical performances by Robin And The Giant playing the mandolin, tambourine and other period instruments. There will also be art projects, a scavenger hunt and games in the courtyard throughout the day.
Guests who visit the Appleton for “Family Day” will also enjoy the museum’s current exhibition “Playing Around At The Appleton: Whimsical Art From The Permanent Collections.” Presented are works of such artists as Alexander Calder, Kenny Scharf, Iain Baxter, Robert Cenedella, David Williams and Salvador Dali. The Appleton also offers world-class collections of European, American, Asian, African, Islamic, Contemporary and pre-Columbian art and artifacts.
The Appleton Museum of Art is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday and closed on Monday. In addition to daily admission, a 12-month membership is available for $25 for seniors 55 and over; $30 for adults 18 and over; $40 for two seniors over age 55; $50 for a family of two adults and any children under age 18; and $15 for all college students and current or retired educators.
