APPLETON MUSEUM PRESENTS AFTER HOURS, ‘FLORIDA INKSLINGERS’ EXHIBITION AND TRIP TO AMELIA ISLAND IN SEPTEMBER

(OCALA, Fla.) July 30, 2009 – An After Hours program with jazz duo Kane and Pando, the opening of the “Florida Inkslingers” cartoonist exhibition and two Trips ’N’ Tours excursions to historic Amelia Island will be among the highlights offered in September by the Appleton Museum of Art of Central Florida Community College. Daily admission to the Appleton Museum is $6 for adults; $4 for seniors 55 or better and students 19 and over; $3 for youths ages 10-18; and free for members, CF students, children age 9 and under, and active military personnel and their immediate families.

The Appleton’s After Hours season will kick off on Thursday, Sept. 10, from 5 to 8 p.m. with a live jazz performance by Kane and Pando in the Courtyard. Music will begin at 5:30 p.m. and admission will be free to members and $8 for nonmembers. Pi On Broadway will provide the hors d’oeuvres and cash bar, and all After Hours guests are welcome to tour the Appleton’s permanent collections galleries.

From Sept. 12 to Oct. 18 the “Florida Inkslingers: Cartoonists of the Sunshine State” exhibition will be presented in the Balcony Gallery. On display will be more than 50 examples of original artwork by many of Florida’s best known comic book cartoonists, political cartoonists, Sunday newspaper cartoonists and advertising artists.

In addition, the Appleton’s Trips ’N’ Tours program will offer an “Amelia Island History and Architectural Tour” on Sept. 16 and 24. These one-day coach trips will include visits to the Amelia Island Museum of History, a recreation of a Timucuan Village and a guided bus tour of the island’s unique architectural structures. The Appleton Museum also offers extensive permanent collections of European, American and Contemporary art as well as Asian, African and pre-Columbian artifacts and antiquities. A series of educational films on the visual arts are shown Sundays at 1:30 p.m.

The Appleton Museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays and is closed on Mondays. A 12-month membership is available for $25 for seniors 55 and over, $30 for adults 18 and over, $40 for two seniors over age 55, $50 for a family of two adults and any children under age 18, and $15 for all college students and current or retired educators.
