(OCALA, Fla.) Feb. 17, 2011 — Widely considered one of the world’s most prolific and accomplished bird artists, the United Kingdom’s Eric Peake will present a “Birds In Art” lecture and presentation from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 27, at the Appleton Museum of Art, College of Central Florida. The lecture is free for members and included in the price of admission for nonmembers.
Daily admission to the Appleton Museum is $6 for adults; $4 for seniors 55 or better and students 19 and over; $3 for youths ages 10-18; and free for members, CF students, children age 9 and under, and active military personnel and their immediate families.
Peake’s watercolor paintings of birds are famous for the fine detail. He has completed more than 1,300 pieces since 1976 and has received countless art industry awards over the years. He considers one of his major accomplishments to be the commissioned painting of parrots he produced in 1989 for Princess Diana. His artwork is found in private collections, museums, offices and major resorts worldwide, including the Hotel Botanico in Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain, where 900 of his paintings are on display.
In addition to Peake’s lecture, guests are invited to enjoy the Appleton’s temporary exhibitions of “Visions of The Gulf: Paintings by Christopher Still and Photographs by Carlton Ward Jr.,” “Beyond Soho: The Abstractions of Michael Fellerman” and “Pan Magazine: A Graphic Arts Time Capsule of Avant Garde Europe, 1895-1900.”
The Appleton Museum offers an extensive collection of world class European, American and Contemporary art, plus Asian, African and pre-Columbian artifacts and antiquities. The museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays and closed on Mondays. A 12-month membership is available for $25 for seniors 55 and over, $30 for adults 18 and over, $40 for two seniors over age 55, $50 for a family of two adults and any children under age 18, and $15 for all college students and current or retired educators.
