(OCALA, Fla.) Feb. 27, 2012 — In celebration of its 25th anniversary year, the Appleton Museum of Art, College of Central Florida, will offer free admission to the public, live musical performances by Donna Wissinger and Joy Myers, a hands-on First Saturday children's art program and refreshments on Saturday, March 3, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Among the day's highlights will be stage performances in the Auditorium by award-winning flutist Donna Wissinger, accompanied by pianist Joy Myers. They will present two programs for young children, "The Pied Piper" at 11 a.m. and a Flute Concert at 3 p.m. Wissinger has performed in concert at Carnegie Hall and other major concert venues throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia.

From 1 to 3 p.m., the Appleton's First Saturday program will offer children ages 4-12 the opportunity to create their own original artwork inspired by the exhibition "Three From Cuba: The Art of Vicente, Sandro and Florido – The Fantastic to the Sublime." Family members and guardians are invited to join the children in the program.

Everyone will enjoy free admission to view the Appleton's extensive permanent collections and current exhibitions that include "Three From Cuba" and "For the Love of the Sea: Watercolors of Philip Steel." The museum's permanent collections feature European, American and contemporary art, plus Asian, African, Islamic and pre-Columbian artifacts. Complimentary refreshments will be available in the Café.

Regular admission to the Appleton Museum is $6 for adults; $4 for seniors 55 or better and students 19 and over; $3 for youths ages 10-18; and free for members, CF students, children age 9 and under, and active military personnel and their immediate families. The Appleton is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, noon to 5 p.m. Sundays and closed on Mondays, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day. A 12-month membership is available for $25 for seniors 55 and over, $30 for adults 18 and over, $40 for two seniors over age 55, $50 for a family of two adults and any children under age 18, and $15 for all other college students and current or retired educators.
