(OCALA, Fla.) April 4, 2012 — Starting June 18, children ages 7 to 14 can attend up to five weeks of Summer Art Camp at the Appleton Museum of Art, College of Central Florida. During each one-week session students will explore different act activities, learn about popular art movements and create their own masterpieces. Classes for Summer Art Camp 2012 are 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday, and presented in a fun and interactive setting. All art supplies are provided. Fees are $85 per week for Appleton members, $95 for nonmembers.

June 18-22, Critter Mania. Hunt for animals depicted in the museum’s artwork and then make art pieces of your favorite creature in paintings, clay and more.

June 25-29, Chillin’ With Chihuly. Explore the beauty of artist Dale Chihuly’s blown glass and make your own fantastic creations.

July 9-13, Arts ’N’ Scraps. A week of reusing everyday items to create amazing works of art.

July 16-20, Paint Your HeART Out. Paint like the masters by using canvas, brushes and paint in the styles of the greatest artists in history.

July 30-Aug. 3, Passport to Fun. Create a visual journal by painting, cutting and pasting together a special summer keepsake.

Daily admission to the Appleton Museum is $6 for adults; $4 for seniors 55 or better and students 19 and over; $3 for youths ages 10-18; and free for members, CF students, children age 9 and under, and active military personnel and their immediate families.

Students who attend Appleton Summer Art Camp are invited to also view the museum’s temporary exhibitions and permanent collection of European, American and contemporary art, plus Asian, African, Islamic and pre-Columbian artifacts and antiquities. The museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, noon to 5 p.m. Sundays and closed on Mondays, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. A 12-month membership is available for $25 for seniors 55 and over, $30 for adults 18 and over, $40 for two seniors over age 55, $50 for a family of two adults and any children under age 18, and $15 for all college students and current or retired educators.
