(OCALA, Fla.) April 26, 2012 — Free admission to the public is being offered on Saturday, May 19, during Community Day at the Appleton Museum of Art, College of Central Florida. Special activities that day include the opening of the Ocala Art Group’s “On the Balcony” exhibition and the “Silver Toast to the Arts” Fair.

Appleton’s Community Day begins at 10 a.m. and free admission provides everyone the opportunity to view the museum’s permanent collection, plus the “Art and the Animal” exhibition. On display are nearly 70 works of art of animals from around the world created by members of the Society of Animal Artists.

May 19 is also the opening day of the Ocala Art Group’s “On the Balcony” exhibition. Programs in the Auditorium include the Ocala Storytelling Guild at 12:15 p.m. and a musical program by the Marion Civic Chorale at 4 p.m. Outside the museum, the “Silver Toast to the Arts” Fair features nearly 30 Central Florida artists displaying and selling their latest original works of art and crafts. Musical groups performing at the fair are Treblehawk, Ron Frosig, Town & Country, and Lonesome Willy Earle.

Regular daily admission to the Appleton Museum is $6 for adults; $4 for seniors 55 or better and students 19 and over; $3 for youths ages 10-18; and free for members, CF students, children age 9 and under, and active military personnel and their immediate families.

The Appleton Museum of Art presents a permanent collection of European, American and Contemporary art, plus Asian, African, Islamic and pre-Columbian artifacts and antiquities. The museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, noon to 5 p.m. Sundays and closed on Mondays, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. A 12-month membership is available for $25 for seniors 55 and over, $30 for adults 18 and over, $40 for two seniors over age 55, $50 for a family of two adults and any children under age 18, and $15 for all college students and current or retired educators.
