(OCALA, Fla.) June 26, 2012 — The "Appleton Biennial 2012: Florida Installation" is a juried exhibition presented through Aug. 12 at the Appleton Museum of Art, College of Central Florida. The museum also offers a Summer Art Camp from July 30 through Aug. 3, and a First Saturday children's art program on Aug. 4. Through Aug. 12, the works of 12 of Florida's best installation artists are showcased in the "Appleton Biennial 2012: Florida Installation Art." The thought-provoking pieces feature a range of media from textiles, wire, paper and wood to video. Alette Simmons-Jimenez, a Miami-based artist/curator who juried the show said, "The most successful works I see are those where the artistic immersion takes place on several levels: space, ambience, architecture, light and audience involvement." The Florida artists participating in the exhibition are from Miami, Hollywood, Winter Haven, Gainesville, St. Petersburg and Lake City.
The Appleton Summer Art Camp features "Passport to Fun" from July 30 to Aug. 3. Students ages 7 to 14 create visual journals of their summer vacation using paints, paper and paste.
