(OCALA, Fla.) Dec. 18, 2012 – To kick off the New Year, the Appleton Museum of Art, College of Central Florida, will present a “Monstrous Bash” Family Day with free admission from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5. Special entertainment includes a live musical performance by concert flutist and artist Donna Wissinger, a puppet show, storytelling program and a First Saturday children’s art workshop.

Appleton’s Family Day schedule includes the “Rumplestiltskin” puppet show with Jerry Bickel of “Bits ’N’ Pieces at 10:30 a.m., storytelling with Windell Campbell at 11:30 a.m. and “Making Monsters” First Saturday art workshops at 1 and 3:30 p.m. Plus, concert flutist Donna Wissinger will present “Journey Into Legendary Florida: 500 Years of Florida History” at 2 p.m. in the Auditorium. Wissinger’s performance is sponsored in part by the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs, the Florida Council on the Arts and Culture and the National Endowment for the Arts.

On Jan. 5, Appleton’s visitors will also enjoy touring the current temporary exhibition “Sendak & Co.: Children’s Book Illustrations Since ‘Where the Wild Things Are’” and viewing the museum’s permanent collection of European, American and Contemporary art, plus Asian, African, Islamic and pre-Columbian artifacts. Complimentary refreshments will be available in the Café.

Regular admission to the Appleton Museum is $6 for adults; $4 for seniors 55 or better and students 19 and over; $3 for youths ages 10-18; and free for members, CF students, children age 9 and under, and active military personnel and their immediate families. The Appleton is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, noon to 5 p.m. Sundays and closed on Mondays, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day. A 12-month membership is available for $25 for seniors 55 and over, $30 for adults 18 and over, $40 for two seniors over age 55, $50 for a family of two adults and any children under age 18, and $15 for all college students and current or retired educators.
