Tuition assistance for children, youth and teens is available through the Appleton’s Scholarship program. Funds will be awarded based on financial need. to provide more scholarships, funds have been limited to one scholarship per child, per year. Please contact Mary Moore for more information or an application.

Payment is due at the time of enrollment and slots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Full refunds will only be given prior to June 1, 2015.

New This Summer!

  • Full Day Option! During weeks 1 and 6, students can stay for an entire day of camp by registering for two, back-to-back classes. In between the two classes, students who are registered for the whole day will have a one-hour, supervised lunch break at no additional charge! Individual class fees apply and students must bring a bag lunch.

  • 2 week pottery for teens! For two weeks, teens will have an in-depth experience with clay as they explore hand building techniques and create unique glazed pieces. Includes all supplies, clay, glazes and firing.

  • LEGO® Block Parties! This summer, bring your child to one of our new Block Parties! LEGO® is always a favorite source of creativity in the ARTSpace and now your child can enroll in a class with guided exploration of engineering and architectural possibilities. Children will work individually and in collaboration with a party on Friday to showcase their best.

  • Week of June 22-26

    Meet the Masters, 10 a.m.-noon ages4-6

    Learn about some of the world’s most famous artists through stories and a variety of art media.  Each day, you will learn about an artist’s style and replicate it in your own masterpiece. Materials and art camp t-shirt included. Students may bring their own snack.

    Explore Your Creative Side, 1-4 p.m.11+

    This week is specifically designed for the older camper. Cut and print original designs using a variety of printmaking techniques and create an abstract painting using varied and unusual materials. Materials, snack and art camp t-shirt included.

    Lego Block Party!, 1-4 p.m. ages 7-12

    Design it. Create it. Wreck it. Repeat!
    Using the ARTSpace’s massive LEGO® collection, explore the fundamental principles of engineering and design in a fun, creative environment. Materials, snack and art camp t-shirt included.

    Members: $85; Nonmembers:$100


    Week of July 13-17

    Landscape Adventure, 9 a.m.-noon ages 7-12

    When you look outside what inspires or interests you?  View the Appleton’s collection and learn about landscape drawing and painting to create your own landscapes in a variety of media, including clay. Materials, snack and art camp t-shirt included.

    Weeks of July 13-24

    2 Week Pottery for Teens, 1-4 p.m. ages 13+

    In this two week session, students of all skill levels will have the opportunity to explore hand-building techniques, surface decoration and glazing. Fee Includes all supplies, including clay, glazes and firing. Materials, snack and art camp t-shirt included.

    Members $175 for 2 weeks; Nonmembers $210 for 2 weeks


    Week of July 20-24

    Pirate Week: Arrrg Matey!, 9 a.m.-noon ages 7-12

    Pirate ships, treasure maps and golden coins in a chest!  Live like a pirate for a week and create pirate-inspired works of art, including a parrot sculpture that’ll be the envy of all the other sailors. Materials, snack and art camp t-shirt included.

    Week of august 3-7

    The Colorful World of Matisse, 1-4 p.m. ages 7-12

    Step into the colorful world of Matisse and experiment with bright colors, bold shapes and expressive lines. Get inspired and create with a variety of materials while learning about French culture. Materials, snack and art camp t-shirt included.

    Week of august 10-14

    Fabulous Fabrics, 9 a.m.-noon ages 7-12

    Paint it, print it, weave it, collage it or turn it into beads. See how many clever things you can create with cloth. Materials, snack and art camp t-shirt included.

    Full Day

    When enrolling in a morning and afternoon camp in weeks 1 or 6, don't forget to pack a lunch and a drink. Appleton staff will supervise lunch between sessions.

    Refunds

    To receive a full refund, all registration cancellations must be submitted prior to June 1, 2015.

    Enrollment

    Enrollment is taken on a first-come, first-served basis beginning April 1, 2015. To guarantee a place in camp, payment must be received in full at the time of registration. To register in person, stop by Visitor Services at the museum for an enrollment form.

    What's Included

    Camp tuition includes an art camp t-shirt and a daily snack for campers 7+. Campers ages 4-6 may bring their own snack. If you child has special dietary needs, please specify on the enrollment form.

    Volunteer

    Teaching assistant positions with the Appleton's Art Camp are for 15-18 year olds interested in art and working with children. If you would like to become a volunteer at the Appleton, moorem@cf.edu to email Mary Moore, Art Educator.

    All volunteers must submit a volunteer application and undergo a background check.


    Meet the Teachers

    Marie Fielding

    Marie holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education from Boston University. After more than 30 years teaching in New England, she found her way to Ocala. Marie is now the Appleton's art education assistant and is full of exciting ideas to inspire artists of all ages.

    Marla Long

    An Art teacher at Eighth Street Elementary for 15 years, Marla has shared her gifts with the Appleton on many occasions. A talented artist in her own right, she enjoys acrylics, pottery and helping children create their own masterpieces.

    Mariann McClary

    After teaching in Ohio and Michigan, Mariann settled in Ocala in 1986. Highly creative with a love of travel, she returns to the Appleton this summer with her fresh approach to each subject.

    Mary Moore

    Mary has been a part of the Ocala community since 1985 and has taught art in Marion County schools, as well as privately to adults and children She has a Bachelor of Visual Arts in Art Education from Georgia State University and has studied at the Art Students League in New York an abroad. She has been the Appleton's art educator for three years.

    Tasha Strigle

    A graduate from Messiah College in Pennsylvania, Tasha has enthusiasm for all things art and children. Having taught art at Mims Elementary for several years, she currently inspires middle school students at North Marion.
