Purpose
Appleton Resources for Teachers and Students is a reading project-collaboration between The Appleton Museum of Art and the Marion County Public Schools intended to support reading programs in the 2nd grade. A.R.T.S. curriculum uses the Appleton's permanent art collection as a focus for the selection of books.
Goals
Students will visit the Museum to see reflected in artworks the culture targeted in the readings. The Museum's Saturday workshops underscore the reading program and offer the entire family a way to support and be involved in the reading education of the student. The Appleton Resource for Teachers and Students program, for second grade students, has the opportunity to reinforce classroom lessons in reading. The A.R.T.S. program will provide students with cultural awareness, serve as a community catalyst along with the schools to teach and nurture a love of reading and assist in a focus on preparing students to read on or above grade level by grade three.
