The Life of a Village
A Holiday Installation by the Montessori Academy, Ocala
Friday, November 15, 2002 through Tuesday, December 31, 2002
The Appleton Museum of Art
This exhibition is the product of a project conducted at the Montessori Academy, Ocala. Last fall a student left the school and as a means to explore the importance of an individual within a community, the students created a village. Each child created a unique structure. The homes and businesses became an expression of each child's life experience. Made with found objects, the project reflected both the issues surrounding community and the application of lessons learned in class. With the inclusion of snow drifts the village becomes a winter wonderland and a Holiday treat. The Village will be installed in the Appleton Rotunda. Each child has contributed a short essay to describe their contribution to the village.
