About the artist: Anthony Ackrill trained as a student at the Florence Academy of Art in Italy for five years. He then became an instructor there, teaching anatomy, figure painting and figure drawing, before returning to the United States. In his own work, Ackrill’s figure paintings are realistic and literal. Painted from life, the models would be recognizable from the paintings. Ackrill’s painting, “Reaper,” is part of the Appleton’s permanent collection.
