Bringing a Group

The Appleton offers a variety of group tour programs custom designed for a variety of users.

The Appleton offers guided tours of special exhibitions, permanent collections and themed topics. The tours are conducted by a trained guide. Guided tours last approximately one-hour. The museum collections tour introduces visitors to some of the treasures in the Museum's permanent collection. You are encouraged to visit the online collections or review current and upcoming exhibitions for other possible tour topics.

Tourism professionals, meeting planners, organizers of trade shows and representatives of hotels, airlines and tour companies are invited to make arrangements for groups of fifteen or more to visit the Appleton Museum. Group Admission Rates

The rates below apply to groups of 15 or more. For groups of less than 15, regular museum admission prices apply. Payment can be made in person the day of the tour, or for other payment options, please contact Lara Sundberg.

adult group tours

When making plans for an adult group tour at the Appleton, please keep in mind:

  • Tour reservations must be made at least one month in advance.
  • Groups of 15 or more will receive a 10% discount at the Appleton Store.
  • For all guided tours, visitors should be aware that arriving more than 15 minutes late, without notification, may reduce the length of your tour.
  • Special exhibition prices vary and rates are subject to change.
  • Cameras and video recorders are not permitted in any of the galleries. Photo opportunities are available in the museum's public areas and interior courtyard. If you would like special permission to take photos, please contact the Appleton's curator, Ruth Grim.
  • If you have a special needs group please notify the coordinator ahead of time.
  • A wheelchair accessible entance and elevators are available.
  • Objects such as packages, large purses, backpacks and umbrellas are not permitted in the galleries. Please make arrangements to leave them in a secure location before entering the museum.
  • To notify the museum of any scheduling changes or delays, please contact the Visitor Services staff at 352-291-4455, ext.1849.
  • Please keep a safe distance from art objects, walls, platforms and cases.

    Youth Tours:

    When making plans for a youth tour at the Appleton, please keep in mind:

  • Grades K-3 requires one adult chaperone for every five children, group size limited to 30 students.
  • Grades 4-12 requires one adult chaperone for every 10 students.
  • Chaperones are considered adults 18 and up. Chaperones must remain with students at all times.
  • Be respectful of other visitors in the museum by using a quiet voice when walking through the galleries and refrain from using cell phones.
  • Food and drink are not permitted in the galleries. Schools may make arrangements in advance for bag lunch facilities.
  • Pencils are the only writing implement permitted in the galleries.
  • You can view this excellent museum etiquette video with your students prior to your visit to familiarize them with the rules of a museum.
