Wild Wetlands

Florida’s wetlands are among the most expressive and diverse ecosystems in the state. They comprise 20% of all remaining wetlands in the United States and cover nearly a third of Florida’s landmass.

Often called “nature’s kidneys,” these ecosystems are essential to the health of our environment. The wetlands naturally filter our water, reduce flood risks and provide habitat for thousands of unique plant and animal species. Such a vibrant and important source of life has long served as inspiration for artists, as seen in this exhibition.

“Wild Wetlands,” curated by Appleton intern Emily Hudson, showcases 12 works inspired by the dynamic beauty of the wetlands. Rather than portraying them as distant scenery, these pieces invite us to see the wetlands as they truly are: living, wild, colorful and constantly in motion.
